Only two things can scratch sapphire, eith another sapphire or a diamond, nothing else. I sometimes scare the crap out of people when I try to scratch the crystal of my Rolex Submariner with a jagged key. I laugh and explain to them that the key would completely wear away without scratching the sapphire crystal if I were to keep rubbing it forever. LOL

You have to think of sapphire crystal as transparent steel. I always buy a watch with a sapphire crystal, it's worth paying the extra price.
